Kevin is a 27 year old video game addict who has spent his whole life living, without question, under the sway of his overbearing mother. Until one day he meets the woman that changes his life. Petunia is a 25 year old over-medicated woman being threatened by an unavoidable, loveless marriage.
Everything is perfect, they’re spending so much time together, they’re dancing late into the night, eating ice-cream, doing laundry, and watching Nature Channel specials together. There’s even a plan in the works to kill Petunia’s fiance. Absolutely everything is perfect. Except one thing: Petunia has no idea who Kevin is.
Goby and the Shrimp is at points a lighthearted tale about the innocence of young adulthood, escapism, and the culture of “nerddom”. But at the same time it is a difficult story about self-mutilation, obsession, and the perversion of womanhood in American society. But most of all, Goby and the Shrimp is about the struggle between loneliness and love in the information age.
Goby and the Shrimp is a literary fiction novel-in-progress by Keith R. Potempa. Click here to read some sample excerpts.
